Autonomy of the Mind

West coast villain livin' in a sunny place full of shady people. A walking contradiction. If somewhere along the lines I were to be misjudged and I were to blame someone, it would be me for not being articulate myself properly.

RE: Food for thought

This post is in no way expressing any liberal or communist viewpoint, but instead I am curious about the tendencies and morality of the Average American when it comes to food and ultimately their health. Here is the question...."If food in America were to be free, as in communal (restaurants would be free despite level of quality, price, etc.) would America's obesity problem/weight go down or rise?"
This was question raised by Trevor's post on Fat America.
With more and more people indulging in high calorie diets, obesity is now a bigger health issue in America than tobacco ( and we've all heard of the evil of those tobacco companies). Despite the prevalent obesity rates, what is the underlying secret behind why we have become the way we are? Sure you can blame capitalism, from the fast food chain around every corner to the deep fried Twinkies and kool-aid. Many typical scenarios depicts low-income family that have no time or money to waste, so they are naturally inclined to eat fast food even if they prefer to maintain a healthy diet. So which proposes the question if all the food in America was free, would more people eat healthy or spiral downhill in the snowball of obesity?

I really have no straight forward answer to the question at hand because there is no way we can accurately predict the outcome of such an outrageous scenario. Free food in a country controlled by capitalism? LUZ. I feel like the obesity rate would skyrocket because honestly, I have no faith in our people. People are born selfish, and if it's free, I would expect no less than for our country to sink to the bottom of the ocean due to the steady weight gain per capita.
But let's be real, nothing in America is free.
