Autonomy of the Mind

West coast villain livin' in a sunny place full of shady people. A walking contradiction. If somewhere along the lines I were to be misjudged and I were to blame someone, it would be me for not being articulate myself properly.

CE: Social Media Boom

Brazil is a country quickly becoming one of the most avid consumers of social media anywhere. Of Brazil's estimated 75 million internet users, 23 per cent regularly use Twitter, the highest penetration anywhere in the world. Furthermore, in February this year, Facebook had 10 million users in Brazil. Today, there are 23 million users. The network is growing faster in Brazil than any other country. Yet while Brazil has a booming economy, the percentage of the total population which has access to the internet is less than 40 per cent. This is higher than the world average, but considerably less than most countries in Europe and Asia.
In America, social interaction through the Interweb continues to thrive at an exceedingly accelerated rate. However, the rest of the world is right behind us; with more and more industrializing countries, we are entering the depths of a new digital era. Brazil is expeditiously undertaking the task of revolutionizing into a internet reliant world. How would one choose to perceive this statement? Would one choose to view this as a new age of communication, making our lives more effortlessly convenient? Or would one see this as a negative impact by creating a more technology centered world?
Here in our little slice of digital heaven, our lives are so dependent on the technology we possess, sometimes we loose ourselves through these bright LCD screens. From updating our every move on twitter, checking-in our location on facebook, mindless gaming on our game consoles, or simply using our smartphones as alarm clocks, it is easy to deduce that many of our lives are loosely based through the vast array of technology available at our disposal. Will Brazil be next to follow?
