Autonomy of the Mind

West coast villain livin' in a sunny place full of shady people. A walking contradiction. If somewhere along the lines I were to be misjudged and I were to blame someone, it would be me for not being articulate myself properly.

CE: Death Penalty

There are 120 people currently on death row in Japan, with polls showing capital punishment is supported by more than 80 per cent of the population. However, some in the country have reservations and object to the practice on moral grounds. Japan has recently begun a debate on whether to abolish the law, with a small group of politicians planning to raise the issue in parliament. But with the wide majority of views still in favour of the death penalty, many doubt that the law will be changed.

In the United States today, the death penalty is something high debated in this country and many have divided views on this controversial topic. However, in the advancing industrializing country of Japan, the price to pay for committing crimes in such utopia is having your name black listed on death row.A vast majority of the Japanese civilians support this system. Of the few, most murder cases are ruled guilty and to the hallows you go.
However, despite the raising popular opinion of death as capital punishment, few individuals believe that ending a life is not a way to deal with delinquents. Should the people of Japan, instead, try to reverse the future for death by providing them insight on how to live a new life? I think it’s time for the people of Japan to take democracy into their hands and utilize it instead of letting bureaucrats from the governing party handle all the dirty business. But then again, who am I to question the morality of another government’s justice when we ourselves are as corrput as a hooker in a kindergarden class.

  1. If you include the written summary that accompanies the Al Jazeera videos, as you have here, then you need to make it absolutely clear that it's a quote and not your words. Just make it a blockquote, put a little note under that says something like, "From the video summary on AJ" or some such thing, and then start your post under that. Otherwise...plagiarism alert!

Nice last sentence. But I don't think I understand your argument. If 80% favor the death penalty, then isn't that democracy already in action?

  2. I have to agree with Sutherland, the Japanese people seem to revere this punishment. Japan has a low crime rate too, so maybe it's working?
I'm not saying it's right, there are many systems that work but are unjust.
I want to know your opinion. Should the death penalty be revoked as a form of punishment?
